Old comedy buddies Nicky Paris (TBS’ New York Comedy Festival, Caroline’s on Broadway’s “Breakout Artist Series”) and Bruce Gray (Netflix’s I Think You Should Leave, Golden Spike Comedy Festival’s “Best Of Fest”) reconnect on the latest episode of Long Time No See: The Podcast. The pair talk about celebrity encounters with Raven Simone and Caitlyn Jenner, wanting to tour with Reba McEntire, and regrettably helping a stripper get on stage. While diving into their biggest bombing experiences, it comes out that both Paris and Gray flopped at their grandparents’ funerals. “When I went up to the podium, I knew it was doomed because the first words out of my mouth were, ‘Thank you,’” recalls Paris. “But usually people clap when I take a microphone! I can’t help it that I know what the American people want… But I just assumed people were clapping, and my brother was like, ‘It was absolutely dead silent.’”
“See, I killed — killed — at my grandpa’s funeral,” says Gray. “And so everyone was like, ‘We gotta run it back’ for my grandma… My grandpa’s was at a funeral home, and I knew the guy who ran it. Which, you don’t like the guy who’s embalming your grandpa, because that’s like, ‘I thought I knew my grandpa, this guy’s been in and out and in and out…’”
Later, they discuss where they’d want to haunt as ghosts. Paris picks Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride: “Because I heard that people spread their family members’ ashes on that ride,” he says. “I couldn’t imagine spending my whole life working on Earth and paying taxes to be stepped on by 27,000 Korean tourists. While people are deep-throating pretzels, my remains are being flipped around the floor by your fucking Crocs. So I would haunt there to get people back and I would say, ‘This is what you wanted?!’”
